Meet the Creator: Abe Hanoka

Hi there! I'm Abe, the creator of MergeCal and MyHebrewDates. MergeCal was born out of a specific need within the Code & Coffee community, a vibrant group of developers spanning multiple cities and time zones.

Code & Coffee needed a way to consolidate calendars from all their groups into a single, manageable feed. This challenge inspired me to build MergeCal, a tool designed to simplify the process of merging multiple calendar feeds. What started as a solution for our community has grown into a platform that I hope can help others facing similar calendar management challenges.

When I'm not working on MergeCal or contributing to open-source projects, I offer full-stack web development services as a freelancer. If you have a project that needs a tailored solution or want to discuss how to streamline your own calendar management, I'd be happy to chat.

Frequently Asked Questions

Part 1: MergeCal Caching

MergeCal caches calendar data to enhance performance and load times. The cache is set to refresh every 24 hours; however, it is immediately cleared when any modifications are made on the site. This ensures that any changes you make are reflected in MergeCal without delay.

Part 2: Google Calendar Caching

Google Calendar may take up to 24 hours to reflect changes as it periodically updates external calendars. Google also caches these calendars, which means even immediate changes on MergeCal might not appear in your Google Calendar until the next sync cycle. Please allow some time for these updates to be fully visible.

While our platform doesn't currently have a feature for bulk addition, you can contact the developer to assist with adding events in bulk. Please note that this specialized service will come with a fee.

If your newly added calendar isn't appearing in the Google Calendar app, follow these steps to sync it manually:
  1. Open the Google Calendar app and tap the three bars on the top left to access the menu.
  2. Tap Refresh to update your calendar feeds.
  3. After refreshing, tap on Settings in the menu.
  4. Under your Google account, find the newly added calendar. It should be listed under the account you used to add it.
  5. Select the calendar and then enable Sync to ensure it updates and displays in your app.

Removing the MergeCal.org link from each event and managing caching settings are premium features available to our subscribers. These options allow for greater customization and control over how your calendar data is presented and managed.

If you are interested in accessing these premium features or want to learn more about our premium plans, please contact the developer directly. We're here to help you tailor MergeCal to meet your specific needs.
